Take advantage of every corner of your backpack

If we are not going to rest in a hotel, or we want to make tourism in a city, it’s critical for us to take a good backpack with us which can go all the travel trough, support with the load, and which be confortable and able to carry everything we need.

We can control all this factors if we know how to take the clothes on the backpack properly, and I have some tips to share with you:

  • Distribute your content in a vertical way, if you do this, the load you will feel will be a lot lighter.
  • The weightest, the closest to your back, so the backpack will be more stable and it’s lees probable to hurt yourself.
  • Coil your clothes to take advantage of the space. If you coil some of your clothes, you’ll be able to take one or two shirts more with you -or whatever which is of the same size. Use this tip if you need an extra of clothes just to be sure.
  • Don’t make bulks, and it’s not -only- an aesthetic question, they unbalance the weight and the backpack will be heavier in one side or another. Avoid it putting the bulk over or under the main pocket.
  • Leave what’s more essential easier to be taken. It’s a big problem to have to move all your clothes just to take a pass or something. Usually, “essential” means “smaller”.
  • Fit your backpack properly and take the load on your legs. The legs must be what carries the backpack, not your back. You should be able to carry the backpack even without the shoulder reinforcements. Even with this, adjust your backpack properly so it won’t disturb while walking.

With this tips you’ll see that your backpack will not be a problem anymore. You’ll be more comfortable and you’ll be able to walk longer distances.

How do I distribute my backpack?

A practical example. My backpack has seven pockets: Two on the upper cover, a main one, two in the laterals, one outside, with the main one, and one above it. My way to distribute things is this:

  • In the cover, one of the pockets is outside, which is perfect if I need get things easily, so I have every single thing which I will need to take out of the backpack quickly. inside the cover, the other pocket has things which I will need to find without looking inside the backpack, but I won’t need as much as I will need the ones in the outside pocket.
  • In the main pocket: first thing I take into it are trousers, and then, t-shirts. I take advantage of the hollows coiling some t-shirts which I’ve not been able to get in before. It’s important to not try to put in the clothes if it’s not easy to do it.
  • In the exterior I leave any other t-shirts. On the sides, underwear, which is not heavy, and so on the one under the main one.

This is the way I distribute my backpack. How do you do it? Do you know any other great tip to share with us?
